“Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.”
Proverbs 22:29 (ESV)

I’ve always loved this verse from Proverbs — it’s short, but it packs a punch.

Just picture it: someone quietly honing their craft, day after day, with care and excellence. No fanfare, no shortcuts. And then — without striving, without needing to push themselves forward — they are suddenly standing before kings.

You and I both know the world often rewards noise over substance. It can feel frustrating when flash and hype seem to grab more attention than real effort. But here’s the encouragement: in God’s economy, excellence eventually speaks for itself. Those who give their best will not go unnoticed.

Excellence always wins.

And in this piece, I want to explore with you how — no matter your title, your role, or your current season — you can practice this kind of excellence in execution that opens doors and shapes your destiny.

You and I can spend so much energy chasing opportunities, trying to “get noticed,” when really the surest path is this: do what’s in your hands — with all your might.

Excellence will place you before kings—but only if it’s forged in the fields of quiet consistency. Share on X

Just as Scripture says:

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might…”
Ecclesiastes 9:10 (ESV)

And here’s where I want to challenge you:

  • Are you rushing through the tasks in front of you?
  • Or are you building something that will last — something that speaks of who you are and Whose you are?

Whether you’re an entry-level professional, a seasoned leader, an entrepreneur, or somewhere in between — the work you do today is a reflection of who you are becoming.

When you bring excellence to your work:

  • You glorify God
  • You build trust
  • You attract opportunity
  • You serve others better

One of the most powerful Biblical examples of this is the life of Joseph.

Think about it:

  • Sold into slavery by his own brothers
  • Wrongfully accused and imprisoned
  • Forgotten by those he helped

If anyone had a reason to give up — or to just do the bare minimum — it was Joseph.

But what did he do?

He chose ownership. He chose excellence.

In Potiphar’s house, he didn’t say, “This isn’t my home. Why should I care?”

He managed the household with diligence and skill — so much so that Potiphar trusted him with everything.

In prison, he didn’t say, “Why bother? I don’t deserve to be here.”

He served the prison warden with integrity — eventually being put in charge of the other prisoners.

And when the day finally came for Joseph to stand before Pharaoh — well, by then, excellence was simply who he was.

That’s why Pharaoh didn’t just give him a temporary reward — he elevated him to national leadership.

The same principle applies today: when you take ownership, act with excellence, and solve problems wherever you are, opportunity will eventually find you.

You won’t need to chase it — it will come to you.

Don’t wait to feel inspired to bring your best. Faithfulness is showing up with excellence even when no one’s watching. Share on X

So let’s bring this home.

How can you — right where you are today — cultivate excellence in execution and do your work in a way that glorifies God?

Here are five simple steps:

1. See beyond the task.

Don’t just ask, “What was I told to do?” Ask: “How can I add value here?” Look for the bigger picture — how your work serves others.

2. Aim for mastery, not just completion.

It’s easy to check boxes. It takes effort to build skill. Invest in learning. Ask for feedback. Refine your craft.

3. Deliver more than expected.

Surprise people with your care. A thoughtful email. A polished report. A helpful resource they didn’t ask for. Excellence is remembered.

4. Own what’s in your hands.

Even if it’s a small assignment. Even if no one is watching. Remember — you’re always building your future self.

5. Stay faithful in every season.

Joseph’s story reminds us that you don’t need perfect conditions to practice excellence. Always bring your best — wherever you are.

Let me encourage you: this is not about perfectionism.

You don’t have to be flawless.

But you can be faithful.

You can be intentional.

You can ask: “Am I building something here that will speak well of me — and of my God?”

Because ultimately, that’s what excellence in execution is about.

It’s about stewardship. It’s about service. It’s about bringing glory to the One who gave us these gifts in the first place.

Excellence in execution is the path to lasting impact. Serve with integrity, build with care, and the right doors will open as your work speaks for itself. Share on X

Friend, I know life can be busy. You may feel unseen. You may wonder if it’s worth the extra effort.

Let me tell you: it is.

Every act of excellence — even when unnoticed by others — is noticed by God.

And over time, your good works will shine. They will open doors you could never have forced open on your own.

So, take heart. Stay faithful. Bring your best — today, this week, this season — and keep at it.

As surely as the farmer who sows in tears returns with his sheaves rejoicing, a relentless commitment to excellent service will ultimately position you in places of influence and affluence.
